EleWatch is the contraction of 'Elephant Watching'. EleWatch is the observatory and network for an elephant related ecotourism which is economically viable, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable. The main goals of this initiative are to develop, monitor, and promote an ecotourism that is respectful of wild areas where elephants live. One of the main objectives of this initiative is to assess — country by country, region by region — the ecotourism potential based on elephant-watching. We foresee that national ecotourism can play a crucial role in elephant conservation. In this regard, we are also trying to examine the balance between international and national ecotourism because we know from experience that there is a tremendous disparity among countries that offer elephant-watching ecotourism: some countries have very advanced models while others have barely developed these opportunities. The challenge is to collectively develop this business sector which can create sustainable revenues and jobs for those who coexist with elephants. In order to be successful, the EleWatch monitoring Initiative requires a high level of participation from a diverse panel of stakeholders. Therefore, we are inviting all stakeholders to be part of the EleWatch Network.
